Don’t miss the last furlough deadline
The Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that the furlough scheme would finally be coming to an end on 30th September 2021, over a year after it was launched.
After extending furlough several times, the government felt now was the time to end the job support scheme as businesses were able to open again.
The deadline for final claims must be submitted on, or before, 14th October 2021, any amendments can be made up to 28th October 2021.
At the height of the pandemic over 11 million jobs were being supported by the furlough scheme, since March 2021 almost three million people have been moved off furlough, due to restrictions being relaxed and businesses re-opening.
At the end of July, 1.6 million people were still on furlough, the lowest level since the start of the pandemic. The cost of furlough will total around £66bn according to estimates from the Office for Budget Responsibility.
Businesses will continue to face a variety of challenges from international travel disruptions and supplier issues. The furlough scheme has helped to save millions of jobs and businesses hopefully this can ensure they can continue to trade.
The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has now announced a £500m plan for jobs, workers leaving the furlough scheme and unemployed people over the age of 50 will be helped back into work. The specific funding will be confirmed at the next spending review and autumn budget.
Sean Daniel, Managing Director said, “The furlough scheme brought much needed welcome support to businesses and helped to protect millions of jobs.”
